Should you block your ex?
Block her if she’s harassing or pressuring you, or if you check her profiles several times a day and can’t stop. Mute her if seeing her updates stings but you’re mostly okay, or if you need to stay in touch for kids, work or a lease. Do neither if part of you hopes she’ll notice the block; that’s a message, not a boundary.
The tool asks those questions in order and gives you the smallest step that protects your peace.

Does checking her profile really slow you down?
Yes. In a study of 464 people after a breakup, checking an ex’s Facebook page went with more distress, more longing and less personal growth, even after accounting for offline contact. Every scroll is a small dose of the relationship.
The same study found a mixed picture for staying connected without checking: people who stayed Facebook friends reported less longing, but also less personal growth. That’s why the tool favors muting when you’re mostly fine, and unfollowing when you’re not.
Is there an upside to stepping away?
Often, yes. Breakups can lead to real growth: in one study, people who left a relationship that had stopped helping them grow reported rediscovering themselves and feeling more positive emotions. Making space from her online is part of making room for that.

What if you need to stay in touch?
Mute, don’t block, and keep contact to one practical channel. Short, polite messages about logistics only. If you share friends, it’s fine to skip a few gatherings for a while, or ask a friend to tell you whether she’ll be there. Protecting your recovery isn’t rude.
If you’re tempted to message her instead, the Should I text my ex? tool helps first. Wondering if she’ll return? Take the Will she come back? quiz. The Situation Finder has the first move when you can’t stop thinking about her.
Questions men ask
Is blocking your ex immature?
No. Blocking is a boundary, not a statement. If seeing her updates keeps you stuck, removing them is a healthy choice.
Should I unfollow my ex on Instagram?
If you check her profile often, yes, at least for a few months. Muting works if you want a quieter option she won’t notice.
Will my ex know if I mute her?
No. Muting hides her posts and stories from you without notifying her. Unfollowing and blocking are more visible.
Should I unblock my ex later?
You can, once she’s a memory rather than a pull. There’s no rush; check how you feel after a few months.
