Am I in love with her or just infatuated?

Look at what your feelings are about. Love is mostly about her: you want good things for her, you can be yourself around her, and you picture her in ordinary life. Infatuation is mostly about you: racing thoughts, a mood that rides on her replies, and an idealized picture of who she is.

The quiz scores both sides separately, because you can feel them at the same time.

Why does early love feel like an obsession?

Because your brain is treating her as a reward. In brain scans of people intensely in love for one to seventeen months, looking at the beloved’s photo activated dopamine-rich reward and motivation areas. That’s why you keep checking your phone.

The obsession isn’t the love itself, though. A review and meta-analysis of 25 studies found that romantic love without obsession was strongly linked to relationship satisfaction, while obsession went with lower satisfaction in long-term relationships.

What does real love look like?

Closeness, passion and commitment together. In Robert Sternberg’s well-known model, love has three components: intimacy, passion and decision or commitment. A crush is mostly passion. Love adds feeling close and choosing her on ordinary days.

What should you do with your answer?

If it’s infatuation, slow down and spend real time with her instead of replaying conversations. If it looks like love, say what she means to you in your own words. If it’s both, enjoy it and steady yourself with plans rather than guesswork.

And if you only like her for now, that’s fine too. Liking someone is how most love stories start. Keep showing up, keep the pace comfortable, and let time tell you what it becomes.

Questions men ask

How do I know if I’m in love with her?

You care about her life for her own sake, you can be yourself with her, and you picture her in your ordinary days, not just your best ones. Constant obsessive thinking on its own is more often infatuation.

What’s the difference between love and infatuation?

Infatuation is intense, anxious and mostly about how she makes you feel. Love is steadier and about her: her wellbeing, your shared life, and choosing her on ordinary days.

Can infatuation turn into love?

Yes, often. Time together, real conversations and seeing each other on bad days are how a crush becomes love, or how you find out it won’t.

Should I tell her I love her?

When the care is real and you’ve spent enough time together to mean it, say it in your own words. Don’t say it to calm your own anxiety or to secure her.
