Should you text her or wait?
Text her when the conversation is alive: you just got her number, you had a good date, or she sent the last message. Wait when you’ve sent the last two messages and heard nothing for days. In that case, she has the next move.
Most of the anxiety comes from treating every text like a test. It isn’t. A short, specific message with a light question or plan does more than any perfectly timed one.

Is calling her better than texting?
For anything that matters, usually yes. People expect calls to be awkward, and they’re mostly wrong. In experiments by Amit Kumar and Nicholas Epley, conversations that included a voice created stronger bonds than text, with no extra awkwardness, yet people kept choosing text because they misjudged how it would go.
That doesn’t mean surprising her with a call after two messages. If you’ve only ever texted, send a quick line to set up a call. For apologies or serious talks, always use your voice.
How often should you text her?
Roughly match her pace and keep moving toward plans. More messages don’t mean more closeness. In a study of 276 people aged 18 to 25 in committed relationships, men who texted more often reported lower relationship satisfaction and stability, while texting to express affection went with stronger attachment.
So send fewer, better messages. One warm, specific text beats ten “hey, what’s up” check-ins.

When is the answer no?
When she’s asked for space, told you she isn’t interested, or left two of your messages unanswered for days. More texts won’t change her answer. They only make it easier for her not to reply.
If she simply hasn’t answered yet, the double texting tool tells you whether one more message is fine. If you’re not sure how she feels at all, take the Does She Like Me quiz. Ready to make a plan? Here’s how to ask her out over text. Just had a first date? See what to text after a first date. For your first text after getting her number, the Situation Finder has the move, and the texting guides cover the rest.
Questions men ask
Should I wait three days to text her?
No. The three-day rule mostly signals nerves. If you just got her number or had a good date, a short text within a day or two keeps the momentum. Waiting longer only makes the first message harder to write.
Is it needy to text her first every time?
Starting conversations isn’t needy; carrying every one of them for weeks is a sign to slow down. If she never starts, write less and make one clear plan instead.
She takes hours to reply. Should I text again?
Not yet. Slow replies are often just a busy life. Match her pace, and look at the trend over a week rather than one gap.
I’ve been drinking and want to text her. Should I?
No. Write it in your notes app and read it in the morning. Late-night texts are the ones men regret most, and nothing important will be lost by waiting.
